The Configurable Ontology to Data model Transformation (CODT) is the patented technology that created the FIBO Data Model from the industry standard.

With CODT, we transform our customized Financial Industry Business Ontology (FIBO) and other industry and proprietary ontologies into enterprise and project models. We reverse-engineer our Logical Data Models into RDF/OWL to complete the model-driven development cycle.

Semantic Enterprise Information Architecture (SEIA)

CODT enables the model-driven development (MDD) approach. In SEIA, the Enterprise Ontology—the FIBO for banks and investment managers—is at the apex. We derive models for data, such as FIB-DM XMS messages, BPMN processes, and UML object models.

As a result, the enterprise has the same design patterns, names, business rules, and definitions.

CODT is bi-directional, and in reverse mode, it generates RDF/OWL from the Logical Data Model, reverse-engineering data models into operational ontologies, or accelerates the development of the Knowledge Graph.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued U.S. Patent No. 12,038,939 for the Configurable Ontology to Data Model Transformation (CODT).

An “Ontology Network” refers to a collection of interconnected ontologies, where each ontology models a specific domain or concept, and these ontologies are related through mappings and alignments. These networks facilitate knowledge integration and interoperability across different domains.

The FIBO–EthOn ontology alignment is an example of mapping a Blockchain domain ontology to the enterprise-level Financial Industry Business Ontology (FIBO).

CODT preserves the lineage and provides traceability from the relational entity to the ontology class that it derived from.

With CODT, enterprise oncologists and architects can expand the Ontology Network to include conventional information assets, linking RDF Stores and Graph Databases to RDBMS. Hence, Net is the top-level domain:

  • Midsize Banks like the most comprehensive Reference Data Model derived from the industry standard but don’t have semantic centers of excellence and ontology databases yet.
  • Large Banks and Financial Institutions have already customized the FIBO; they don’t need the original, but rather create their own FIB-DM and other data models.

CODT education resources have been an area on the FIB-DM website. However, the FIBO Data Model and its transformation technology cater to different audiences. Hence, they get their dedicated websites.
